Kingsville - The Lone Star Conference preseason poll has been released for women's cross country, tabbing the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas to finish in sixth, mirroring their finish at the LSC Championship race last season.
After the team made school history last year, producing its first pair of All-Conference finishes since at least 2006 with a ninth- and 11th-place finisher at the LSC Championship, it is ready to begin competition once again in just one week at the Bearkat Twilight Invitational in Katy, TX.
"I think it's amazing seeing how far this program has come in just a couple years," Assistant Coach Zachary Hall said. "I believe this is the highest pre-season rankings we have had on the women's side."
One half of the All-Conference pairing, senior
Ivanova Yanes, returns for her final year in the blue and gold. The most decorated distance runner in TAMUK's history was named to the LSC's Runners to Watch list along with incoming freshman
Kayla Trevino.
"We are excited that Ivanova and Kayla were selected to be on the watch list," Hall said. "Ivanova showed us last year in track why she deserves this honor, being one of the best 10k girls in the country, and I'm excited to see how much progress Kayla can make this year."
Along with the men's team, the Javelinas will travel north to their Sam-Houston-State-hosted season opener on Friday, September 5.
