Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville women's cross country freshman
Kayla Trevino brought home the first Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Week award on the strength of a new five-thousand kilometer personal record at the Louisville Cross Country Classic in Louisville, Kentucky this weekend.
The award marks the first time that a female Javelina has brought home the LSC's Freshman of the Week honor since
Odette Fernandez back in the 2021 season.
"Kayla has come a long way in a short time," Assistant Coach Zachary Hall said. "She did a great job last week of executing the race plan."
Trevino's 20:02.5 was the fastest time of any Javelina running in the women's 5k silver race, and the new fastest 5k time that Trevino has run in her young collegiate career.. She led the Hogs to a sixth-place team finish among the 23 different teams who ran in the event.
"We are really excited to see what Kayla will do this year," Hall said.
Kingsville will be back on the course this weekend at the AP Ranch in Fort Worth to race in Dallas Baptist's Old Glory Gallop.
