Fort Worth - On an overcast morning at the AP Ranch, the Texas A&M-Kingsville men's and women's cross country teams took 10th and 11th place respectively at the Lone Star Conference Championships, with senior women's runner Ivanova Yanes earning her second straight All-Conference honors, becoming the just the third Javelina in program history to earn the honor twice.
Yanes led the way for the women's team with a 22:22.47, finishing in 14th place. She is the first multi-time All-Conference runner for the team since 2002 after finishing in ninth place at last year's Championship, which the Javelinas hosted.
The women's team battled through a competitive field, with the top five runners posting times within three minutes of each other to secure their 11th-place finish.
Behind Yanes was freshman Kayla Trevino, who began the first postseason of her collegiate career with a 24:54.12, finishing her in 66th place. Sophomore Yaritzy Acosta wasn't far behind, finishing 72nd in 25:18.12.
Sophomore Samantha Presas edged out her veteran teammate, placing 77th with a 25:35.28 to graduate student Beyonce Hernandez's 79th-place finish of 25:41.53.
While veteran leadership paced the women, youthful energy drove the men's squad. Sophomore Roberto Alejandro led all Javelinas across the line, claiming 21st place in 25:51.25.
Kingsville native Jacob Rivera, a freshman, made his LSC Championship debut with a 26:52.08 for 48th place. Standout sophomore Kristian Green grabbed 56th in 27:04.06.
Sophomore and fellow Kingsville native Roberto Trevino crossed in 58th at 27:08.40. Freshman Josh Perez rounded out the Javelina scorers, taking 65th in 27:28.63.
The men's 10th-place finish marked a solid showing for the Javelina squad, led by Alejandro's top-25 performance and bolstered by depth from underclassmen.
