Kingsville - Redshirt-Freshman
Tyler Schumann was named the Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year as part of the conference's postseason awards on Wednesday.
Schumann is one of four Javelinas to be selected to the conference's postseason awards. Joining him is
Ulises Quiroga on the LSC all-conference second team,
Vincent Sanchez on the LSC all-conference third team and
Nick Reyes on the LSC all-academic team.
Schumann, a native of Fulshear Texas, was an essential piece to the Javelinas rotation this season. He finished the season 5-4 with a pair of saves, a 3.88 ERA in 48.2 innings of work and 43 strikeouts. Schumann is the first Javelina to be named the conference's Freshman of the Year since the 2018 season, when Tyler Flores was named to the award.
Quiroga, a transfer from UTSA, was nothing short of exceptional in his first season with the Javelinas. The native of Bayton, Texas, finished the season fourth in the conference with 75 K's and fifth in the conference with seven wins. His best outing came against Sul Ross, where Quiroga tossed his second complete-game shutout along with a conference-best 13 K's in route to a dominant win for the Javelinas.
Sanchez, the lone returning offensive starter from the 2024 season, was very productive filling in the third base spot for the Hogs. The native of Houston started in 51 of a possible 52 games for the Hogs, posting a .327/.438/.450 triple slash in his final season with the Javelinas. Sanchez also posted team-highs with 32 RBI's and 16 doubles while also notching one triple and a home run.
Rounding out the postseason awards for Texas A&M-Kingsville is Reyes. The Corpus Christi native finished the season with a .297/.402/.428 triple slash while knocking in 23 RBI's for the Hogs. Reyes is the first Javelina to be named to the LSC's all-academic team since the 2021 season and is currently studying Biology with a 4.0 GPA.
