Tyler - Texas A&M-Kingsville could not get the offense rolling as it fell, 10-1, to UT-Tyler at Irwin Field on Saturday.
The Javelinas (27-24, 26-22 LSC) got on base just two times against the Patriots (42-9, 40-8 LSC) and plated just a single run. UT-Tyler meanwhile, totaled 10 hits and 10 walks to post 10 runs in route to a game one victory.
Ulises Quiroga got the start in game one of the LSC Conference tournament opening round, which was pushed back to Saturday due to inclement weather in the Tyler area. Quiroga put out a quality start for the Javelinas, going five innings with seven strikeouts. However, he gave up the first two runs of the game with a Patriot home run in the fourth that put the first two runs on the board.
It would not be until the sixth inning where the Javelinas would get something going, as
Sergio Galvan Jr. was the first Hog to get on base thanks to a throwing error by the Patriot shortstop.
Joshua Endo then brought Galvan home with the first hit of the game for the Javelinas with some assistance from another Patriot error to make the game 1-3.
Despite a scoreless sixth inning from
Jake Thielen, the Javelinas just could not get aboard against the Patriots in the top of the seventh. UT-Tyler took advantage of this in the bottom of the seventh, plating five runs on just two hits to go up big on the Hogs.Â
Both
Jayden Martinez and Galvan notched hits in the eighth inning, but Texas A&M-Kingsville could not get them home despite there being just one out in the inning. The Patriots would plate another two runs in the eighth to salt game one away in the LSC opening round.Â
Game two of the LSC conference tournament for the Hogs is set for Sunday at 3:00 pm. Fans of the Javelinas can watch live on FloCollege or follow the game at JavelinaBSB on Twitter.Â
