Payne awarded all-conference third team honors

Frisco, TX - Graduate Student guard Isaiah Payne was named as an all-conference third team selection for the Lone Star Conference on Wednesday.

Payne, a native of Ville Platte Louisiana, led the Javelinas in scoring this season with 14.7 points per game on 49 percent shooting. He also finished the season averaging 2.9 rebounds per game and totaled 38 assists, good for third on the Javelinas.

One of the most electric scorers in the LSC this season, Payne posted eight games this season where he would finish with 20-or-more points, two of said games he would hit the quarter-century mark. Payne set his new career high in points in an early-season contest against MSU-Denver, where he scored 27 points on an absurd 11-13 shooting.

Perhaps Payne's best performance came when the then-No.2 ranked West Texas A&M came to Kingsville on December 15. Payne scored 25 points on 12-19 shooting with four steals and three assists to lead the Javelinas to a 65-60 upset over the Buffaloes. Payne would be awarded the LSC player of the week award for his efforts against WT.

Another career milestone would be achieved for Payne would be hit later in the season, as Payne would reach 1,000 career points against Cameron University on February 8. A three-pointer from Payne early in the second half would push him over the 1,000 point mark as he would finish the game with his seventh 20-point game of the season.

Payne's selection makes it five straight years now that a Javelina has been named to an all-conference team, joining CJ Smith (2022, 2023, 2024), Dillon Gooding (2023), Creighton Avery (2021) and Chauncey Thomas (2020).
