STUNT starts first ever season at DBU Tournament

Dallas - In its first ever weekend of competition as a sports program at Texas A&M - Kingsville, the STUNT team travelled to Dallas and played against three teams at the Dallas Baptist Tournament, falling to Texas Woman's, 23-0, and Southern Nazarene, 11-7, on Friday before losing to Oklahoma Baptist 24-0 on Saturday.

Though TAMUK had played an exhibition game at home against a talented St. Mary's squad, this weekend held the first regular season games for the University's newest sport. It also represented a unique challenge, as the Javelinas' first ever opponent, Texas Woman's, ended last season ranked No.9 in the nation, while Oklahoma Baptist was No.1.

"This weekend we learned a lot as a team and now we know what we need to work on moving forward," Head Coach Lindsey Garcia said. "These girls never lost sight of what we were there for even though we faced some tough teams. They went out on that mat for every game this weekend and gave it their all but most importantly, had fun."

After a difficult matchup in game one, the Javelinas rallied and played the Storm very close, scoring their first ever points as a program.
"Going into game 2 the girls felt more confident. We had a few minor mistakes but made a lot of adjustments," Garcia said. "I am proud of every one of my athletes for going out there and proving to themselves that they can do it."

Kingsville's next competition will come in a few weeks when the Javelinas head back to Dallas for another DBU tournament. There, they will play four games across two days - facing off against DBU twice, as well as George Fox, and the University of Texas.
