Women’s 4x400m relay named National Athletes of the Week

Kingsville - With a historic, Lone-Star-Conference-winning performance on Saturday, the Texas A&M - Kingsville women's 4x400m relay team of senior Vitiana Robert, freshman Sakara Wade, freshman Oneika Brissett, and senior Cynai Christopher have been named the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Women's D2 Athletes of the Week.

This is the first time in program history that a Javelina has won the award, and it was well-deserved, as the 3:39.62 that the crew ran is the second fastest in D2 this year, and the seventh fastest ever run in D2 history.

"It was a great effort for those women," Head Coach Ryan Dall said. "It was the fifth race of their meet for Oneika and Cynai and Sakara and VItiana ran hard 400s the day before. It was impressive that they were able to come back and still run that fast, especially at that altitude."

The run crushes TAMUK's previous record, which that same quartet had set less than a month ago, by more than six full seconds. It also won the event at the LSC Indoor Championship meet in which it was run, helping the women's team place second in the conference for the first time in program history.

The Javelinas now look ahead to their meet in San Angelo on March 8th - first meet of the outdoor season - which falls just one week before the NCAA Indoor National Championships meet.
