STUNT competes in second DBU tournament

Dallas - In the second weekend of competition in the program's history, the Texas A&M - Kingsville STUNT team fought hard against Dallas Baptist, George Fox, DBU again, and the University of Texas, and lost its four game, 24-0, 11-9, 23-0, and 24-0.

The team fell to 0-7 on the year, but put up the most points in a single game ever, scoring nine against George Fox.

The weekend started on Friday when the Javelinas competed against the Patriots for the first time, falling 24-0.

"Going into the first game, the girls were a little nervous and made some mistakes," Head Coach Lindsey Garcia said. "We had some really good hits but still came short."

The Javelinas quickly settled in, posting the program's best score ever and falling just short of George Fox, 11-9. Its previous best came last weekend when TAMUK fell in a tight, 11-7, game against Southern Nazarene.

"Going into the second game, the girls felt great," Garcia said. "They were ready to go and it showed on and off the mat. Even though we came up short, we still reached our team goals for the day and exceeded our expectations for this game."

On Saturday, Kingsville once again opened the day with a game against the Patriots, this time losing 23-0.

"Going back today and playing DBU, the girls knew exactly what needed to be executed," Garcia said. "Although we had made some mistakes overall, they did better than the day before."

The final game of the weekend was a matchup with the Longhorns, the first time in program history that the Javelinas have faced off with a D1 opponent. Despite the score, they showed out.

"Playing against Texas was by far the best game we have had all season," Garcia said. "Even though we had to forfeit rounds, overall the routines we participated in were executed to the best of our ability. Looking at the score sheet, we hit everything we have been working on the last few weeks."

Kingsville will have little break, as the team travels to Denton next weekend for six games, two of which are Lone Star Conference games, at a Texas Woman's hosted tournament.
