Topeka, KS - The No.11 team in the nation, Washburn, got the better of the Texas A&M - Kingsville women's tennis team in Topeka on Saturday, beating the Javelinas 7-0.
The Javelinas fought with the Ichabods in each match, taking multiple to three sets, but were swept by the Ichabods on the road, falling to 1-2 on the season.
"We came up short today, but my ladies played with heart," Head Coach
Autumn Wollenzien said. "I'm proud of the fight we had. We'll go back to the drawing board and move on to next week."
Kingsville's No.1, two, and three singles players each pushed their Ichabod counterparts to three sets. In the one spot,
Luna Jokanovic lost 5-6, 6-1, 0-6, in the two spot
Guadalupe Tocci lost 4-6, 6-4, 3-6, and
Annalena Noll lost 6-1, 5-7, 2-6 in the three spot. At four, five, and six respectively,
Manuela Turolo lost 1-6, 2-6,
Andrea Landaeta lost 1-6, 4-6, and
Annika Andersson Gomez lost 3-6, 0-6. All three of TAMUK's doubles teams, made up of Tocci and Turolo, Landaeta and Noll, and Jokanovic and
Kaitlin Blount, were beaten in straight games, 0-6.
The team will head to Milledgeville, Georgia next weekend for three matches, one on Thursday against Augusta, one on Friday against Georgia College and State, and one on Saturday against Emmanuel.
