KINGSVILLE, Texas - Closing out the month of April, the Texas A&M-Kingsville track & field teams are back at the University of Texas as they take on the Texas Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
The two-day meet will be one of the Hogs' greatest tests yet as numerous Division I schools including Houston, Indiana, Notre Dame, SMU, Texas State, UT San Antonio, Wisconsin, and UT Arlington as well as multiple professionals line up alongside the Javelinas.
More than 40 Javelinas are making the trip to the state's capital with just two weeks until the Lone Star Conference Championships in San Angelo. The Hogs currently hold 14 different Division II provisional marks, including top-five performances nationally by
Markim Felix in the men's javelin throw and
Thomas Nieto in the men's pole vault.
Last time out, a smaller contingent of Javelinas competed at the Rice Twilight as dual-sport athlete
Devon Williams added the 14th provisional mark to the Javelina total in the women's discus. The throw of 46.67m (153' 1") secured second place for Williams as well as a new personal best in the event.
Day one of competition kicks off on Friday with the women's and men's long jump at noon. Running events get underway at 4:30 p.m. with the women's 200 meters.
