ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Coming in on the back of a four-game win streak, the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team battled the Henderson State Reddies in an epic match that saw four singles matches go to three sets, but the Hogs came up short in the end, 2-5.
The Javelinas (4-1, LSC 0-0) drop their first official match of the season and their first loss since a 0-7 defeat in an exhibition match to Division I TAMU-Corpus Christi.
The Reddies took the doubles point, 2-1, as the team of
Alessa Maier and
Milou ter Morsche picked up the lone doubles win for the Hogs.
In singles play, four different matches went to four sets as the Javelinas tried to battle back from the early deficit, but were only able to take two of the four matches needed for the win. Maier continued her personal winning streak on Court One with a three set victory for the Javelina's first point, coming back from a first set loss to dominate the next two sets, 2-6, 6-3, 6-0.
Raina Zaffar delivered the other TAMUK point on the day, also in a three set battle, 2-6, 7-6, 7-5.
The Javelinas will be back in action at home for the first time this spring as they take on UT Rio Grande Valley in an exhibition on Feb. 28 before taking on Angelo State on Mar. 2.
