Kingsville - Less than a week after her final match in blue and gold, senior middle blocker
Ayanna Jackson was named to the All-Lone Star Conference First Team.
This season, Jackson hit a breathtaking .428 - Â the fifth-best number in the nation at the Division II level - while averaging 2.97 kills per set. She also ranked second in the conference in blocks per set, with 1.12.Â
"Ayanna is so deserving of this award," Head Coach Tanya Allen Gonzalez said. "I'm proud of her, and thankful the conference recognizes her talent."
The honor only further adds to an increasingly-lengthy list of awards and accomplishments that Jackson has collected over her career with the Javelinas. Chief among those awards are her selection to the 2022 American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American Third Team, the 2023 AVCA All-American Honorable Mention list, the 2022 AVCA All-South Central Region Team, and the 2023 AVCA All-South Central Team Honorable Mention.
Her storied career has left its mark on the Javelina record books as well, as her name is peppered up and down the list of all-time single-match, season, and career performances in hitting percentage, blocks, kills, and points.
Among many program records, her 483 career total blocks, which tie her with Ada Ihemelu ('99) for the second-most ever by a Javelina, stand out. As does her .337 career attack percentage - the second-highest by any Javelina over the course of a career in program history. She has also amassed 1722.5 points across her four years - the second-most in program history. Additionally, Jackson's 84 solo blocks are the third-most by any Javelina in a career.
The 2.98 kills that Jackson averaged per set during her career are the seventh-most by any Javelina. The 464 sets that she has played in are the eighth-most ever.Â
As if the list couldn't get any longer, the percent Jacksson hit of .428 during her final season is - by a fairly wide margin - the best percentage hit in a single season by any Javelina in program history. Jackson now owns three of the program's top five best single-season attack percentage performances. Incredibly, those only scratch the surface of the deep mark Jackson left on the program's all-time records.
Jackson's incredible career began the same way it ended - with an all-Conference team appearance. As a Freshman, she won the LSC Defensive Player of the Year award. A year later, she made the leap to all-American - a title she held for back-to-back seasons, as her Junior year saw her selected an all-American Honorable Mention. That year, she led the team to new heights, taking them to the program's first LSC Tournament Championship game, as well as a berth to the South Central Regional Tournament.Â
Truly one of the greatest volleyball players to ever wear the blue and gold in Kingsville, Jackson begins the award season the right way.
