Javelinas set to open season at Union University Volleyball Classic

Kingsville - The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team will open up its season in Jackson, TN with four matches across two days at the Union University Volleyball Classic.

With nine new faces joining nine returning Javelinas, the team is loaded with talent and ready to take on tough competition with matches against Harding, Lane, Drury, and Arkansas-Fort Smith.

"I'm hoping to learn how this team, new faces and old, can adapt under pressure and make changes throughout the course of the match," Head Coach Tanya Allen-Gonzalez said. "And, of course, I'm looking to see who can step up and produce in ways that help us win."

Competition will begin for the Javelinas at 11 a.m. against Harding, who finished its season with a stellar 22-9 record last season, before closing out their first day with a 3:30 p.m. match against Lane College.

"The first day of play is daunting because there's no film and no expectation of what will be on the other side of the net," Allen-Gonzalez said. "It's extremely important for the girls to make adjustments we give them and be able to quickly process, and implement, our feedback."

Saturday will see the Hogs begin play at 9 a.m., their earliest first-serve of the season, against Drury. They will then have a long break until their 5:30 p.m. match against Arkansas Fort-Smith.

TAMUK already has two full matches under its belt, having played a five-set against Prairie View A&M and posting a three-set win over the program's Alumni All-Star Team in the SPEC.

All matches will be live streamed on FloCollege and live stats can be found here.
