Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville crushed the offense of St. Edwards as it rolled in a clean sweep Wednesday at the Steinke Physical Education Center.
The Javelinas (14-12, 6-9 Lone Star Conference) held the Hilltoppers (10-16, 2-14 LSC) to a ridiculous .053 attack percentage and forced 20 attack errors. Texas A&M-Kingsville also finished with eight blocks and seven service aces on the game.
Ayanna Jacskon led the Javelinas with eight kills and six total blocks.
Rylan Pollard and
Natalee Rush both finished above five kills with six and five respectively.
Nadia Pena and
Elisa Carli totaled an equal 14 assists for the match and
Elisa Carli tagged four service aces as well.
Set one showed early signs of a Javelina wipeout as kills from
Meghan Stiefer and Jackson would put Texas A&M-Kingsville up three early. The Hilltoppers slowly began to work their way back into the set, but a quick 6-1 run filled with Hilltopper errors put the Javelinas up big in the set. From there the Javelinas would close it out with more strong defense and timely kills by Jackson and Rush.
The next set was even more dominant from the Javelinas, with a 13-0 run for Texas A&M-Kingsville wiping out St. Edwards in the second set. Carli would secure all four of her service aces during this run, Rush would secure two kills and the Javelinas would roll the Hilltoppers in the second set.
In the final set, it appeared to be much the same for the Javelinas. A kill from Jacskon would put the Javelinas up five early in the set, but the Hilltoppers would not go quietly in Kingsville. St. Edwards' offense managed to show flashes and eventually bring itself within two points of the Javelinas, but that would be the closest they would get. Kills from
Kendall Harrington,
Kerigan Baumgartner, Jackson and Pollard put the Javelinas in great position to win the match. A late rally from St. Edwards made it interesting, but Carli put the finishing touches on the match.
Texas A&M-Kingsville faces Sul Ross State on Senior Night in the regular season finale Saturday at 2:00 p.m. CST. Fans of the Javelinas can watch on Flosports or follow live coverage on live stats or JavelinaVB on Twitter
