Kingsville - The final match of the Kingsville volleyball team's season ended in three sets as TAMUK celebrated its three graduating seniors with a sweep of Sul Ross St. at home.
The contest marked the final match of DS
Samantha Hensley, OH
Meghan Stiefer, and MB
Ayanna Jackson's careers. Hensley dropped in an ace as well as six digs and a pair of assists, Stiefer collected six kills, nine digs, and an ace, and Jackson had a match-high 14 kills, five total blocks, a dig, and an ace.
In total, Kingsville hit .320 as a team, and collected 45 total kills. Five different Javelinas had at least six kills, three of whom swung above .300 individually.
"Hitting above .300 is always impressive, doesn't matter who you're playing," Head Coach Tanya Allen Gonzalez said. "Offensively, we really shine, so I think you can attribute a lot of our win to our swings."
The team also held the Lobos to a -.021 attack percentage. TAMUK had six blocks and matched its kill total in digs, with 45 - the team also held SRSU to just 19 total kills in the match.
"Our block is very big, and they run a slower offense, which gave our block a little bit more time to get in front of them," Allen Gonzalez said. "I think just the intimidation of how big our block is kind of forced them to make some hitting errors."
Jackson's blocks boosted her up in the Javelina record books as she ends her career tied for the second-most career total blocks in TAMUK history. The match marks the 17th match of the season with double-digit kills for Jackson, and her 12th with at least 12. Her kills came on an incredible .636 hitting percentage, which helps secure her career hitting percentage of .335, the second highest number in program history.
While Jackson held down the front row, the team's two liberos put together an excellent match behind her. Freshman
Tayae Garcia and sophomore
Isabel Rodriguez combined for 18 digs - 11 for Garcia and 7 for Rodriguez.Â
Kingsville closes its season 15-12 overall with a 7-9 record in Lone Star Conference Play. Though they did end the year with a losing record in conference play, the Javelinas closed the season winners of four of their final five matches.
