ARLINGTON, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team wrapped up its final tournament of the Fall 2023 season at the ITA South Central Regional Championships this afternoon on a massive high note.
Alessa Maier completed a commanding performance, taking first place in the main singles draw to be crowned champion of the South Central region for the Fall season.
Maier becomes the first Javelina to ever win a regional title.
Maier started her day off with a win over Kateryna Rudenko of Cameron in the main draw semifinals. After a hard-fought win in the first set, 7-6, she continued her streak of straight set victories with a convincing win in the second set, 6-3.
In the finals, Maier faced St. Mary's Selina Wu. A dominating first set win, 6-1, gave Maier the momentum she needed to take set two, and the match, 7-6. The victory completed Maier's streak, finding victory in her every singles match in two straight sets.
The win was the last match for the team in the fall season. The Javelinas will now take some well-deserved rest and begin gearing up for conference play in the spring.
