KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's cross-country team has broken into the top ten in the USTFCCCA DII Women's Regional Rankings for the South Central region for the first time in program history, coming in at the tenth spot as announced by the organization on Tuesday afternoon.
The ranking comes after the Javelinas showed out at the Lumberjack Invitational, finishing second-place overall after hosts Stephen F. Austin and beating out Sam Houston State and conference opponent UT Tyler.
The Javs had two runners in the top five and five in the top twenty, with
Ivanova Yanes leading the way in her Blue and Gold debut, finishing in first-place with a 17:10 time over the three-mile.
Maya Espinosa finished in fourth-place with a time of 17:41.
Janeth Chacon,
Odette Fernandez, and
Fae Gonzalez rounded out the top twenty for the Javelinas with finishes of 11
th, 16
th, and 18
th respectively.
The Javelinas are one of three LSC squads in the regional ranking, with West Texas A&M in eighth and Dallas Baptist in seventh. RMAC schools have locked down the top three spots in the region, led by Adams State and followed by Colorado School of Mines and UC-Colorado Springs.
The squad will be back in action this Saturday in San Antonio, Texas for the UIW Invitational.
