AUSTIN, Texas – Texas A&M-Kingsville graduate student, D.J. Delancy has been named to the 2022-23 men's track & field/cross-country Academic All-American Team as announced by the College Sports Communicators for the second year in a row as announced in a press release, Thursday.
A native of Bethel Town, Jamaica, Delancy earns first-team honors after posting a 4.0 GPA while pursuing his master's degree in biology at TAMUK.
This is the second time the shot put star has earned the accolade, being named second-team a season ago.
On the field, the honor comes after Delancy cracked second-team All-American status in his final season as a Javelina with the Jamaican heaving the shot put 17.31m (56-9.50) on his second attempt to place 12th at this Spring's Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.
At the conference championships back in May, Delancy took gold in the shot put using a personal best, 18.26m (59-11) toss on his final attempt to climb the leaderboard into first.
Delancy was also named the Lone Star Conference Indoor Track & Field Academic Athlete of the Year back in March.
As a whole, the Division II Academic All-American team boasted a 3.90 average GPA, with the 15 first team members averaging 3.93.
