KINGSVILLE, Texas – Texas A&M-Kingsville head women's tennis coach Autumn Wollenzien announced the Javelinas schedule for the 2023 Fall season on Wednesday.
The schedule features three total competitions all happening in the month of September including the annual Javelina Jam (Sept. 15-16) with St. Mary's, Texas A&M – Prairie View, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi currently set to compete in Kingsville.
"The Fall is an important time for coaches and our players," said Wollenzien. "We have some great opportunities to play and get to know the new members of our team. I always look forward to playing in the Fall, a good Fall can provide great momentum for the future heading into the Spring."
TAMUK opens the season at the Islander Open (Sept. 8-10) hosted by neighbor TAMU-CC before hosting the Javelina Jam.
The Fall then concludes at the ITA Regionals in Arlington, Texas beginning on Sept. 21.
The Javs will be anchored by the senior Alessa Maier who finished the Spring of 2023 at No. 44 in the ITA Division II singles rankings, the highest of any player in program history. On the year, Maier had a stellar Spring 2023 season with a singles record of 13-4 against NCAA competition, 8-2 in LSC play while playing all her 27 matches at the No. 1 spot for the Javelinas. Maier also recorded two wins over nationally ranked opponents, ending regular season play by winning nine out of her last ten matches.
