INDIANAPOLIS — The National Collegiate Athletic Association announced the selections for the 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships on Tuesday, with 14 Texas A&M-Kingsville student-athletes slated to make the trip to Pueblo, Colorado. The meet will span May 25-27 inside the CSU Pueblo Thunderbowl and will feature a total of 754 participants.

Among the qualifiers, sophomore Ja'Qualon Scott has punched his ticket in three events, including the 400m hurdles, where he leads the nation with a time of 50.56. He also will compete in the 110m hurdles, as he is slotted third at 13.56, and as a member of the 4x400m relay team.

The squad, made up of Scott, junior Bryson Dyer, freshman Tony Benitez, and junior Michael Samihamba, ranks third entering the competition thanks to a time of 3:08.48 that serves as the TAMUK school record.

The women's 4x400m relay team will also make the trip, as freshman Melanie Roland, sophomore Vitiana Robert, newcomer Amber Gonzalez, and sophomore Cynai Christopher were seeded 12th at 3:43.82.

Six field competitors were chosen, with five throwers in the bunch and two on the women's side.

Junior Veronica Garcia will take on the discus after a 46.90m (153-10) measurement at the 2023 LSC Outdoor Championships, while classmate Katryna Hernandez sits 20th in the shot put at 14.45m (47-5) from a toss at the 15th Annual Cactus Cup.

For the men, graduate student D.J. Additionally, junior Markim Felix will compete in the javelin with a 68.55m (224-11) measurement placing him seventh.

Rounding things out, sophomore Thomas Nieto is seeded third in the pole vault, as a 5.45m (17-10.5) clearance from the Crimson Tide Invitational serves as his seasons-best.
