RICHARDSON, TEXAS – Junior Alessa Maier was named First-team All-Lone Star Conference for singles play and junior Milou ter Morsche earned All-Academic recognition as announced by the conference in its annual postseason award release on Wednesday.
Maier earned the honor for the second-straight season the first to earn the honor in consecutive seasons since Maria Herrera who was named to the team three consecutive times across the 2013-14 and 2015-16 seasons.
The native of Hechingen, Germany had a stellar Spring 2023 season with a singles record of 13-4 against NCAA competition, 8-2 in LSC play while playing all of her 27 matches at the No. 1 spot for the Javelinas. Maier also recorded two wins over nationally ranked opponents, ending regular season play winning nine out of her last ten matches.
The junior's selection is also the seventh time in nine years that a Javelina has earned First-Team All-LSC selection.
The strong performance also saw her shoot up to No. 47 in the ITA singles rankings for Division II, the highest of any Javelina in program history.
Maier was also named to the LSC All-Sportsmanship team.
ter Morsche's selection for the LSC All-Academic team is the second time the Goor, Netherlands national's career after receiving the honor last season. This Spring, the junior put together a 11-6 record against NCAA opponents while going 8-2 through her last ten matches. Meanwhile in the classroom, she had another stellar academic year maintaining her 4.0 GPA from a year ago pursuing a degree in Marketing.
The pair will be on the court tomorrow as the Javelinas take on No. 1 seeded Cameron at the conference tournament tomorrow in Arlington, Texas set to start not before 11:30 a.m. according to conference officials.
