LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's cross-country team competed in the NCAA South Central Regional Championship on Saturday on the campus of Lubbock Christian.
The top three teams at the meet would automatically qualify for the national championships. Individually, finishers in the top-five whose teams did not qualify – or the next two highest finishers if the entire top-five did qualify – would also automatically qualify for the national championship.
Ivanova Yanes was the first Javelina to cross the finish line in the women's 6K. Yanes brought home 69
th-place with a time of 22:58.42.
Maya Espinosa clocked in next for the squad in 85
th with a time of 23:23.40.
Janeth Chacon finished shortly after in 93
rd-place, clocking in a 23:38.18.
Odette Fernandez and
Fae Gonzalez were the rounded out the finishers for the Javelinas in 140
th and 146
th with times of 25:24.40 and 25:41.36 respectively.
Overall, the squad finished in 17
th-place as a team out of the 26 competing with 524 points. Adams State secured first-place and the regional title with 44. Colorado School of Mines finished close behind in second with 76 points, and Western Colorado rounded out the podium in third at 111 points.
