EDMOND, Oklahoma – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team traveled to Edmond, Oklahoma on Saturday where they suffered their second consecutive Lone Star Conference loss, this time at the hands of the Oklahoma Christian Eagles in three sets 18-25, 16-25, 22-25.
The Javelinas (10-6, 2-2 LSC) came into the Payne Athletic Center looking to bounce back against the Eagles (9-8, 3-3 LSC) after a tightly contested matchup against the University of Arkansas Fort Smith Lions ended in a four-set loss just a night prior.
Senior outside hitter
Jackie Alanis, the only Javelina with double digit kills recording 10, was the only standout on the day as the team as a whole hit a .152, being quite uncharacteristic for the squad as a whole.
The Javelinas didn't get off to a great start as they found themselves down early 15-6. However, the Javelinas did rally, but by then the Eagles had already done their damage, and a 5-1 run leaving the score 22-13 was the dagger that ended the first set 25-18.
Set two saw both squads battling hard as they were fighting point for point, until the 12-12 mark where the Eagles took a 10-1 run making the score 21-13. The Javelinas showed some fight however as a couple kills from Alanis ended the set 25-16.
The third set was a true back and forth as the teams tied 8 times in a row, getting to the 10-10 mark in the game. From there, Oklahoma Christian went on a 5-1 run seemingly out of reach from the Javelinas. The Javelinas, however, fought back as they tied
it three more times at 18-18, 19-19, and 21-21. From there the Javs only able to score once as the Eagles went on a 5-1 run closing out the match.
The Javelinas will be back in action Friday October 13
th, as they face Dallas Baptist University at 6 P.M. in the Steinke Physical Education Center.
