Javelinas sweep Rambelles In Pink Out game

TAMUK takes down no. 2 in the conference ASU in three sets to none sweep

KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team hosted the Angelo State Rambelles for the annual Pink out game sweeping them three sets to none (25-22, 25-21, 25-23).

The Javelinas (16-6, 8-2 LSC) came into Friday on a five-game streak taking down the St. Edwards Hilltoppers in five sets.

"This was a huge win against a really good team", said head coach Tanya Allen-Gonzalez. "I'm so proud of our team".

The Javelinas took control all around limiting the Rambelles to a .192 hitting percentage while having a .270 of their own. The Javelinas also had six service aces and six blocks on the night, as the Belles had zero aces and eight blocks to their line. Junior middle blocker Ayanna Jackson once again working the offensive side of things with 12 kills and a .333 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter Meghan Stiefer also worth mentioning as she had eight kills with a .389 hitting percentage on the night with two service aces.

Set one began with the Javelinas and Rambelles battling it out early with the score 4-3 before a 3-0 Javelina run made it a 7-3 game. The Rambelles trying to put a run of their own together get stopped by the Javelinas who go on another 3-0 run making it a 10-4 set early forcing an ASU timeout. The Rambelles did eventually put together a couple of 3-0 runs, however that would be the highest in the set as the Javelinas denied them every time. The set at 22-17 Javelinas in front, the rambelles call a timeout in which they come out and rattle off a 4-1 run making the set 23-21 before a TAMUK timeout. Out of the timeout however Ayanna Jackson has two kills in a row ending the set 25-22

In set two, the Javelinas went point for point with the Rambelles until finally gaining some separation making it 10-7. The rambelles put up two 3-0 runs to the Javelinas one making it a tie at 15 all. It went score for score until at the 18-18 point the Javelinas put together a 4-0 run making it 22-18. The rambelles were able to muster a 3-1 run before the set ended with back to back Javelina scores making it a 25-21 set two final.

The third set was the most intense of the night having four total lead changes and 10 total ties. Neither team wanting to give a single inch, the match was tied at 19 all before the Javelinas took off on a 5-2 run. The Rambelles fought back trying to start a run but were denied by the Javelinas who ended the set 25-23, thus ending the match.

The Javelinas will be playing again at home next time out taking on the UTPB Falcons, Saturday October 28th at the Steinke Physical Education Center for FRIGHT FEST.
