Javelinas take down falcons in four

TAMUK marches on to 7 wins in a row following fright fest victory

KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team hosted the UTPB for Fright Fest at the Spooky SPEC where they took down the Falcons in four sets. (24-26, 25-19, 25-15, 25-19).  

The Javelinas (17-6, 9-2 LSC) came into Saturday on a six-game streak after sweeping the Angelo State Rambelles three sets to none.

The Javelinas were slow to start, but eventually got going and took control limiting the Falcons to a .096 hitting percentage while having a .253 of their own. The Javelinas also had seven service aces and seven blocks on the night, as the Falcons had six aces and 11 blocks to their line. Junior outside hitter Meghan Stiefer took the spotlight this time out having 17 kills on the day with a .400 hitting percentage and two service aces. Senior outside hitter Jackie Alanis also had a good day offensively with 12 kills and a service ace to her line.

Set one began with the Falcons coming out of the gates hot starting with a 5-1 lead. The Javelinas quick to try and put a run together, were stopped by the Falcons who continued to go on multiple 3-0 runs before they finally broke through with one of their own making the game a 17-15 set. At 18-15 the Javelinas tied it up going on a 3-0 run making it an 18 all set one. With a 24-21 Falcons lead the Javelinas put together one last 3-0 run tying the game at 24 a piece before UTPB took two and the set 26-24.

In set two, both squads kept it extremely close with the Javelinas in front 9-10 before going on a 5-0 run making it a 15-9 set. The Falcons going on an impressive 7-1 run of their own tied it at 16 all before the Javelinas took control with a 9-3 run ending set two 25-19.

The third set was the most intense of the night with each squad going point for point until the 17-14 point where the Javelinas rattled off seven straight making it a 23-14 set only allowing one more score making it a dominant 25-15 set three.

The fourth and final set began with the squads tied at 1-1 before the Javelinas took off and never looked back going on a 5-0 run, 4-0 run, and finally at the 23-19 point one last 3-0 run ending the match.    

The Javelinas will be out on the road next time out taking on the Midwestern State Mustangs, Friday, November 3rd at the D.L. Ligon Coliseum in Wichita Falls, TX.
