Maier takes No. 52 in singles rankings, Javelinas finish at No. 66

Maier’s singles spot the highest-ever by a Javelina

TEMPE, Ariz. – Sophomore Alessa Maier (Hechingen, Germany) moved up to No. 52 in singles play, the highest ranking ever achieved by a Javelina, and the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team landed in the No. 66 spot in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings of 2022, which were released on Thursday.

Maier finished the season with a 16-5 record and was 8-1 in Lone Star Conference play. She ended the year with six straight victories and triumphed in 14 of her last 15 matches. These efforts earned Maier a First-Team All-LSC selection and she was also named to the All-LSC Tournament Team. This makes five weeks in which Maier earned a spot in the ITA's singles rankings and tops her previous best of No. 55.

As a team, the Javs jumped up nine spots from No. 75, where they were placed in the final regular season poll. This represents the team's highest spot since they finished the 2019 campaign ranked 29th. TAMUK ended the 2022 regular season with an 11-11 record and a 5-4 mark in the LSC.
