Javelinas sixth following day one at PGA Works Collegiate Championships

TAMUK hit the second-most birdies in round one with seven

PHILADELPHIA, P.A. — The Texas A&M-Kingsville golf team wrapped up its first day at the 2022 PGA Works Collegiate Championship on Monday, as they shot 18 holes at the Union League Golf Club of Torresdale.

"We struggled today as a team," said coach Stefanie MaynardĀ "Kristin (Grabow) really gutted out her round today and I'm extremely proud of her. We are already preparing for tomorrow's round in order to make a move up the leader board."

The Javelinas currently sit sixth in the team standings, carding a 340 that sits 60-over par. Delaware State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi share first at 310, while Chicago State maintains third with a score of 323. Statistically, TAMUK has logged the second-most birdies in the competition, recording seven in the first round.Ā

FreshmanĀ Kristin GrabowĀ (San Antonio, Texas) led the way in Philadelphia, shooting a 79 with a birdie on the 14th hole. Additionally, she was solid on the back nine, finishing plus-two and helping her into a tie for ninth.Ā

Joining Grabow in the top-20, graduate studentĀ Roxane NatafĀ (Paris, France) is currently tied for 17th after logging an 82 that featured three holes under par. Nataf's birdie total ties with Christyn Carr of North Carolina A&T for the tournament lead.Ā

Meanwhile, juniorĀ Briana SilerioĀ (McAllen, Texas) shot an 89, placing her in a tie 34th with hree holes even with par. Just one stroke behind her freshmanĀ Alessia RojasĀ (Seabrook, Texas) ranks 38th after logging a birdie on the 18th hole.Ā

Rounding out the group, juniorĀ Katelyn HabibĀ (Corpus Christi, Texas) carded a 94 at 24-over and sitsĀ in a tie for 46th after posting a plus-seven score on the back nine.Ā

The tournament continues Tuesday, with round two at the Union League Liberty Hill golf course, ahead of round three Wednesday, back at the Union League Golf Club of Torresdale.Ā
