CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The Texas A&M-Kingsville track and field concluded the 2022 Miami Hurricane Alumni Invitational on Saturday, with sophomore
Gabriel Field (China Spring, Texas) setting an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 400m hurdles, while junior
Jordan Wilson (Blytheville, Arkansas) did the same in the long jump and redshirt senior
D.J. Delancy (Bethel Town, Jamaica) in the shot put at Cobb Stadium on the campus of Miami.
Field clocked in at 53.27 in the event, just crossing the finish line under the provisional standard for a bronze medal.
The sophomore then joined classmate
Bryson Dyer (New Braunfels, Texas), redshirt senior
Johnathon Harper (Lorena, Texas), and freshman
Cody Fountain (Portland, Texas) in the men's 4x400m relays as the squad clocked in at 3:17.56 to place second behind host-school Miami. Additionally, Fountain took ninth in the 800m, with a time of 1:55.2, and Dyer claimed 17th in the open 400m at 49.65.
Wilson did his damage on his second attempt in the long jump, with the multisport athlete leaping to 7.28m (23-10.75) to place seventh among seven Power Five competitors. He was joined by redshirt senior
Dean Wallace (Geronimo, Texas) and Wellington in the event, with Wallace claiming 11th at 6.80m (22-3.75) and Wellington 15th (6.63m (21-9).
Delancy got his provo while snagging fifth in the men's shot put after reaching 16.94m (55-7) on his third try, allowing him to climb the leader board and beat Bryant Parlin of Oklahoma by two-tenths of a meter.
Harper also competed in the 110m hurdles, where he earned a 15th, completing the race in 14.77 to place between a pair of athletes from Syracuse.
The Javelinas found success in the sprint relay, with junior
Shaun Gill (Belize City, Belize), sophomore
Michael Samihamba (Dallas, Texas), redshirt senior
Michael Samihamba (Portmore, Jamaica), and sophomore
Jonathan Macareno (Kingsville, Texas) finishing fourth in 41.19. Individually, Gill completed the 100m dash in 10.86 to take 16th.
Meanwhile, in the women's races, the 4x400m relay team comprised of freshman
Cynai Christopher (Missouri City, Texas), sophomore
Sophia Ramirez (Edinburg, Texas), newcomer
Lori Martinez (Edinburg, Texas), and classmate
Vitiana Robert (Tarbes, France) placed 10th in 4:01.31. Earlier, in the open 400m. Christopher logged a 20th-place finish, with the Missouri City native finishing the race in 57.43.
The team had a slew of solid performances in women's shot put as well, with freshman
Devon Williams (Gonzales, Texas) and sophomore
Katryna Hernandez (Gonzales, Texas) finishing back-to-back in sixth and seventh. Williams heaved the implement 13.78m (45-2.50), while Hernandez reached 13.41m (44-0). Additionally, redshirt senior
Gertrudis Balli (Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico) joined them in the event and placed ninth at 12.38m (40-7.50).
The Javelinas return to Kingsville, Texas, this week as they host the Cactus Cup in Pepsi Field at Javeliana Stadium on Friday, April 15.
