Golf headed to Lone Star Conference Championships

The event spans three days at the Squaw Valley Golf Course in Glen Rose, Texas

KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's golf team is en route to Glen Rose, Texas, to compete in the 2022 Lone Star Conference Championships at the Squaw Valley Golf Course, which begins Thursday, April 21, and concludes Saturday, April 23.

15 total teams will compete at the league's tournament, which spans three days, with rounds one and two at 8 a.m. on Thursday and round three Friday. Following 54 holes of stroke play, the top four teams will engage in medal match play, with the semifinals set for 2 p.m. Friday and the finals Saturday at 8 a.m.

The team had their conference tuneup at the 5th Annual WT Desert Invite, where they snagged a 17th-place finish. Graduate Student Roxane Nataf (Paris, France) led the way placing in a tie for 37th individually while shooting 160 in Tucson, Arizona. She is primed for a solid showing at the LSC Championships after a season that saw her set a new school record in eagles in a season and career logging two in just 22 rounds as a Javelina.

Joining Nataf, juniors Katelyn Habib (Corpus Christi, Texas) and Briana Silerio (McAllen, Texas) make the trip, with Habib representing the only member of the Blue and Gold to previously appear at the conference tournament. She competed in 2021 and carded a 243, earning her a tie for 59th, while helping her team to a 12th-place finish at the Texas Ranger Golf Club in Arlington, Texas.

Silerio, meanwhile, last competed at the UTRGV women's invitational, where she placed 74th overall on March 8. Prior to the tournament in Edinburg, Silerio helped the Javs place eighth at the Jack Brown Memorial, one of the team's five top-ten finishes on the season, a feat that has been accomplished every season since coach Stefanie Maynard took over the program in 2017.

Newcomers Kristin Grabow (San Antonio, Texas) and Alessia Rojas (Seabrook, Texas) round out the lineup that will compete for an LSC title in Glen Rose. The duo has been a mainstay in coach Maynard's lineup and has featured in every tournament in the Spring slate.

The Squaw Valley Golf Course is a par 72 course that spans 6,284 yards, holds a 70.8 rating, and has a slope of 126.
