SAN ANGELO, Texas — The Texas A&M-Kingsville track and field program competed on the final day at the Dave Noble Relays on Saturday, as the team had several top performers at LeGrande Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field on the campus of Angelo State.
The throwing program led the way in terms of points scored, with sophomore
Katryna Hernandez (Skidmore, Texas) taking home a silver medal in the shot put. Hernandez reached 14.07m (46-2) en route to the podium finish, meeting the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard. Freshman
Devon Williams (Gonzales, Texas) and redshirt senior
Gertrudis Balli (Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico) joined her in the event, with Williams placing fourth at 13.69m (44-11) and Balli seventh with a distance of 12.80m (42-0).
The trio linked up again in the discus, where Balli led the way in fourth, slinging the implement 42.85m (140-7). Just behind her, Williams claimed fifth at 40.22m (131-11), and Hernandez finished sixth, reaching 40.17m (131-9).
Hernandez would also place fifth in the hammer throw at 47.52m (151-11).
On the men's side, redshirt senior
D.J. Delancy (Bethel Town, Jamaica) took fifth in the shot put and sixth in the discus. The Jamaican heaved the implement 16.26m (53-4.50) on his final toss in the shot put, while reaching 46.16m (151-5) in the discus.
Senior
Stephen Cardenas (Ingleside, Texas) polished off a solid day for the throwing program in the hammer throw, where he earned bronze with a 55m (180-5) measure on his second attempt.
In the women's pole vault, junior
Kimberly Ortolon (Edna, Texas) reached provo status and placed third after clearing a bar of 3.76m (12-4). Sophomore
Bianca Cardenas (Elsa, Texas) joined Ortolon in the competition and took sixth at 3.46m (11-4.25).
Redshirt senior
Johnathon Harper (Lorena, Texas) earned bronze in the men's iteration of the pole vault, thanks to a clearance at 4.71m (15-5.50) on his first attempt. That height was also cleared by sophomore
Reid Barba (San Antonio, Texas), who did so on his second try earning him fourth, while freshman
Blake Gordon (Yokum, Texas) placed fifth at 4.56m (14-11.50).
Senior
Tavion Johnson (Houston, Texas) and junior
Dustin Richardson (Natalia, Texas) finished back-to-back in the high jump, with Johnson reaching the provisional standard at 2.06m (6-9) in fourth and Richardson fifth at 1.96m (6-5).
Also placing fifth, senior
Criselda Cruz (Alice, Texas) converted a 1.54m (5-0.50) attempt in the women's high jump.
Meanwhile,
Shammawi Wellington (Portmore, Jamaica) logged a third-place finish in the men's long jump, reaching 7.12m (23-4.50) on his fifth attempt.
Over on the track, the Javelinas had a trio of solid relay performances, headlined by the women's 4x400m squad comprised of freshman
Cynai Christopher (Missouri City, Texas), sophomore
Sophia Ramirez (Edinburg, Texas), freshman
Lori Martinez (Edinburg, Texas) and classmate
Vitiana Robert (Tarber, France) placed third with a time of 3:54.80.
Freshman
Kennedi Silmon (Corpus Christi, Texas) also delivered a strong performance for the women on the track, as she took fourth in the 100m hurdles at 14.55.
In the men's 4x400m relay Harper teamed up with sophomore
Gabriel Field (China Spring, Texas), classmate
Sterling Riles (Houston, Texas), and freshman
Cody Fountain (Portland, Texas) to place sixth in 3:18.59.
Field also competed in the 400m hurdles, where he claimed fifth in 54.73.
Additionally, the men's 4x100m relay team clocked in at 41.67, as Harper, Wellington, junior
Shaun Gill (Belize City, Belize), and sophomore
Johnathon Macareno (Kingsville, Texas) placed fifth.
The team will now focus on the Hurricane Alumni Invitational, which begins Friday, Apr. 8, in Coral Gables, Florida, on the campus of Miami.
