AUSTIN, Texas — Redshirt Senior
Johnathon Harper (Lorena, Texas) currently maintains 10th in the decathlon through a day of coemption at the 94th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays presented by Truist at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of Texas.
After five events, Harpers holds a score of 3,760, placing him 10th out of 22 top-level competitors in one of the largest collegiate meets across all three NCAA divisions. Additionally, the Lorena, Texas native, represents one of only two non-DI athletes to receive an invitation to the decathlon.
His day began in the 100m, where he clocked in at 11.18 for 821 points. Next, he placed sixth in the long jump, reaching 7.05m (23-1.75) on his third and final attempt. Later he added 640 points in the shot put with a toss of 12.56m (41-2.50) and 636 in the high jump after clearing a bar of 1.81m (5-11.25). He tacked on 827 more in the final event of day one, thanks to a time of 49.51 in the 400m.
Harper has five more events on the docket, including the 110m hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1500m beginning at 10 a.m. He won't be the only Blue and Gold athlete competing in the Capital City on Thursday as sophomore
