Track and Field wraps up Wes Kittley Invitational

The Javelinas had several strong performances in a trio of relay events

ABILENE, Texas — The Texas A&M-Kingsville track and field program completed the final day at the Wes Kittley Invitational on Saturday, with both the men's and women's relay teams delivering impressive performances at Elmer Gray Stadium on the campus of Abilene Christian. 
 
The men's sprint relay team comprised of junior Shaun Gill (Belize City, Belize), sophomore Michael Samihamba (Dallas, Texas), redshirt senior Shammawi Wellington (Portmore, Jamaica), and sophomore Jonathan Macareno (Kingsville, Texas) clocked in at 41.40 to finish third in the 4x100m. 
 
Later in the women's 4x400m, freshman Cynai Christopher (Missouri City, Texas), newcomer Lori Martinez (Edinburg, Texas), sophomore Sophia Ramirez (Edinburg, Texas), and freshman Vitiana Robert (Tarbes, France) teamed up to finish in 3:55.42, placing sixth. 
 
Christopher found success in the long jump as well, reaching a distance of 5.57m (18-03.25) on her first attempt, to place fifth. 
 
The men's 4x400m relay crew took seventh as sophomore Gabriel Field (China Spring, Texas), freshman Cody Fountain (Portland, Texas), classmate Nana Amo-Mensah (Corpus Christi, Texas), and newcomer JaCorey McAdams (Fort Bend, Texas) crossed the finish line in 3:23.50.
 
Fountain also found success in the 1500m run in his outdoor debut, pacing his way to fourth place with a time of 4:06.97, while fellow first-year Javelina Kennedi Silmon (Corpus Christi, Texas) competed in her first 100m hurdle competition as a collegiate athlete, placing seventh in 14.91.
 
Meanwhile, the pole vault saw a pair of Blue and Gold athletes place, with junior Kimberly Ortolon (Edna, Texas) placing seventh and clearing a bar of 3.50m (11-05.75) in the women's competition, with sophomore Reid Barba (San Antonio) taking eighth in the men's iteration at 4.60m (15-01).
 
Senior Gertrudis Balli (Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico) wrapped up the day in the discus, slinging the implement 44.90m (147-07) on her fifth attempt for a seventh-place finish. 
 
The Javelinas return to the track on Wednesday, Mar. 23 as they kick-start the 94th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
