PITTSBURG, Kan. — Redshirt senior
Johnathon Harper (Lorena. Texas) sits fourth after four events in the heptathlon at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field National Championships. Harper posted a day one score of 3,052, while representing the Texas A&M-Kingsville track and field program on Friday at the Robert W. Plaster Center on the campus of Pittsburg State.
The Lorena, Texas native started the day with a time of 6.97 in the 60m dash, which afforded him 893 points as well as a new personal best in the event. Next, Harper reached 6.94m (22-2.25) in the long jump on his first attempt, earning him seventh and tacking799 onto his total.
In the shot put, Harper launched the implement 13.37m (43-10.75) on his second toss to claim sixth, bringing his total to 2,382 going into the final event of the day.
The high jump finished off Friday's heptathlon, where Harper cleared a height of 1.85m (6-0.75) on his first go. He added 670 to his score, allowing him to finish day one in fourth at 3,052, with the 60m hurdles, pole vault, and 1500m run all waiting on Saturday.
