Hogs headed to Lubbock for Lone Star Conference Indoor Championships

A slew of Blue and Gold student-athletes are vying for LSC championships.

KINGSVILLE, Texas- The Texas A&M-Kingsville track and field will make its way to Lubbock, Texas for the 2022 Lone Star Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships with two days of completion at the Texas Tech Sports Performance Center, beginning Friday at 10:30 a.m. with redshirt senior Dean Wallace (Geronimo, Texas) competing in the heptathlon. 
 
Wallace enters the competition as the sixth-ranked multi-competitor in the conference, with a 4,913-point season-best that also sits 25th nationally. He represents one of several Javelinas that maintain spots atop the league.
 
Classmate D.J. Delancy (Bethel Town, Jamacia) is the top-seeded athlete in the shot put, with the Jamaican's mark of 17.21m (56-5.75) from the 2020 Washburn Open, serving as the conference's best toss. Additionally, he is joined by junior Marco Arevalo (Falfurrias, Texas) on the performance list, who is ranked fourth at 16.26m (53-4.25). 
 
In the women's iteration of the event, sophomore Katryna Hernandez (Skidmore, Texas) ranks second, at 13.52m (44-4.25), cementing her as one of the conference's top contenders. 
 
Senior Stephen Cardenas (Ingleside, Texas) enters as the league's fourth-best performer in the weight throw after heaving the implement 17.45m (57-3) at the Howie Ryan Invitational, setting up what should be a strong meet for the Javelina throwers,
 
TAMUK also sends a pair of solid pole vaulters into the conference meet, with junior Kimberly Ortolon (Edna, Texas) ranked second after clearing a bar of 3.85m (12-7.5) at the Yeoman Fieldhouse, while redshirt senior Johnathon Harper (Lorena, Texas) owns the third-best men's performance in the event at 4.70m (15-5).
 
Competition in the Hub City wraps up on Saturday at 3:30 p.m., with the 4x400m relay, an event in which the men's team owns a season-best of 3:19.07 that places them fifth,, while the women rank sixth at 4:01.26.
