One hurdle remains for No. 10 Javelinas to complete perfect regular season

TAMUK travels to San Antonio to try and reach 12-0

KINGSVILLE, Texas – With the Lone Star Conference South Division Title already salted away, the No. 10 Texas A&M-Kingsville women's volleyball team has one more match remaining as they attempt to complete the first-ever perfect regular season in program history and it will happen on Saturday in San Antonio, Texas against the St. Mary's Rattlers inside Bill Greehey Arena at 1 p.m.

The Javelinas have already broken the program records for best start to a season and longest winning streak and they are one of only two undefeated teams remaining in the LSC. The Javs are also on pace to set a new school record for best hitting percentage in a season, with their .234 clip currently besting the mark of .230 they set in 2014.

Middle blocker Ayanna Jackson (San Antonio, Texas) continues to put together one of the best freshman seasons Kingsville has ever seen. She's moved up to second in the LSC and 27th in the nation in blocks per set at 1.18, which would be TAMUK's highest rate since Ada Ihemelu reached 1.31 in 1997. In kills per set, Jackson is seventh in the conference and owns the LSC's third-highest hitting percentage among those with at least 300 attacks. She's also one of only two Javelinas who's started every match in 2021.

TAMUK's last two matches represented two of the best performances of Kelsi Luckenbach's (Calallen, Texas) career. She set a new personal-best in a Tuesday night sweep of the Rattlers with 16 kills and hit at a .342 percentage. She added 15 more smashes on Wednesday and no one on the Javelina roster can match the 43 kills Luckenbach has reeled off in her team's last three matches.

A win on Saturday would give the Javs their fifth season sweep of St. Mary's in seven seasons and their 10th victory over StMU in 11 tries. In the all-time series between these programs, the Rattlers own a 29-24 edge, but the Javelinas have captured 19 of the last 23 meetings since 2007.
