Homecoming White Out against West Texas A&M on tap for Javelinas

Kickoff set for 7 p.m. CT at Pepsi Field at Javelina Stadium

The Matchup    
  • TAMUK returns to Pepsi Field at Javelina Stadium for the Homecoming White Out game against West Texas A&M on Saturday, October 30
  • Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT and will broadcast live on the Mendoza's Pharmacy Javelina Sports Network along with a syndicated broadcast on KDF-TV on Channel 47.2 with Mark Inserra on the call
  • Saturday marks the 36th meeting between the program, with WT owning a 16-14-1 lead following the four vacated victories by TAMUK from 1996-99
  • The Buffs won the last matchup on November 9, 2019, in Kingsville by a score of 35-31 and have taken eight of the last 10 contests between the programs
  • The last Javelina win came on October 7, 2017, at home by a score of 37-9
Scouting the Buffs    
  • WT had a two-game winning streak snapped last week with a 15-3 defeat at the hands of A&M-Commerce in Canyon, Texas
  • The Buffs are 4-4 on the year with a 3-2 record in league games that feature wins over Western New Mexico, Angelo State and Eastern New Mexico
  • The lone non-conference win for WT game against Texas College on September 2
  • Khalil Harris leads the ground game with 595 yards on 97 carries and five touchdowns
  • Nick Gerber anchors the passing game with 1562 yards on 110 completions in 197 attempts for 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions
  • Gerber's primary target has been Noah Bogardus with 27 catches for 472 yards and two touchdowns
  • Markell Stephens-Peppers owns the most receiving touchdowns with three coming on 12 catches for 179 yards
  • J.T. Cavender leads the defense with 71 tackles, including 3.5 for loss and one sack
  • Eric Collins has found the backfield often with a team-high eight tackles for loss along with 1.5 sacks, while Michael Smith leads the defensive line with 3.5 sacks
Last Time Out    
  • The Javelinas resumed the LSC schedule with a 28-19 win over Western New Mexico on the road in Silver City, N.M., last week
  • Zadock Dinkelmann led the air attack with 207 yards on a 14-for-24 completion rate with one score to Ryan Martinez
  • The Hogs combined for three rushing touchdowns to wrap the scoring, one each from Amonte Bowen, Jacob Cavazos and Christian Anderson
  • The defense held the Mustangs to fewer than 100 rushing yards while forcing three turnovers, the fourth time this year both marks were met
  • Cory McMahan had one interception and one fumble recovery, while Amos Coleman had the other interception
The First Of Many    
  • The 24-10 win over Western Oregon on September 11 was the first win for head coach Mike Salinas in his tenure as the Hogs' lead man
  • The 36-10 win over Eastern New Mexico on September 18 was the first league win for Salinas
  • Salinas took over the program in December 2019 as the 12th head coach and 11th full-time head coach of Javelina Football
Grind It Out    
  • The Javelinas compiled 214 yards on the ground as a team in the 24-10 win over Western Oregon, most since October 19, 2019, when the program finished with 237 rushing yards
  • The 2019 season also featured 302 rushing yards against Sul Ross State on September 14
  • TAMUK picked up another 348 yards rushing in a 51-21 win over Lincoln (Calif.) on October 16
Getting Stingy    
  • The Javelina defense allowed only 58 rushing yards against Eastern New Mexico on September 18
  • It is the fourth time in the five games since Mike Salinas took over that the defense held its opponents to fewer than 70 rushing yards in the game, including the two games in the spring of 2021
  • The Javelina defense didn't allow more than 100 yards on the ground in any of the four contests since Salinas took over the program in December 2019
  • The 124 total yards of offense allowed against ENMU is also the fewest allowed against a Division II opponent since 2017 when the program held West Texas A&M to 187 total yards in a 37-9 win on October 7
  • The 80 yards rushing allowed against Western New Mexico on October 23 was the fourth time this year the defense held its opponent to fewer that 100 yards, joining Saginaw Valley State (90 yds - Sept 4), Western Oregon (67 yds - Sept 11), and ENMU on the year
I'm Not Over You Just Yet    
  • The Javelina defense recorded three takeaways in the first two contests of 2021 and added another three forced turnovers against Lincoln (Calif.) on October 16 and Western New Mexico on October 23
  • TAMUK picked up a fumble and intercepted two passes against Saginaw Valley State on September 4
  • The Hogs added two fumbles and one interception in the win over Western Oregon on September 11
  • Two more interceptions and a fumble came during the win over LU, matched the next week against WNMU
  • TAMUK had three games in 2019 with at least three takeaways
The First Time Since...    
  • The 24-10 win over Western Oregon snapped a four-game losing streak as the Javelinas last defeated the Wolves in the NAIA Semifinals on November 29, 1975
  • The win over WOU was also the first win at home over a Division II foe since November 10, 2018, when the Hogs defeated UT Permian Basin 24-21 in the season finale
  • The 36-10 win over Eastern New Mexico was the first win to start conference play for the Javelinas since September 8, 2012, when the program defeated No. 9 Abilene Christian 16-13
  • The Javelinas blocked a punt and recovered it for a touchdown in the 30-13 loss to Midwestern State on October 9
  • Marco Noriega had the block and initial recovery while Darian Mayberry capped the touchdown
  • The last time the Javelinas blocked a punt and recovered it for a touchdown was in a 30-14 loss on the road to Angelo State on September 15, 2018
  • Keshon Rowe had the initial block while Jacob Armstrong ended up on the ball in the endzone
  • Amos Coleman blocked a PAT against Midwestern State in the second half, first time since the 2018 season when Justin Loften blocked a PAT at home against Midwestern State
  • Shane Johnson's 101 rushing yards in the 51-21 win over Lincoln (Calif.) on October 16 was the most by a quarterback since Trey Mitchell finished with 154 on October 18, 2014 in a 57-31 loss to Angelo State
  • The 348 rushing yards as a team in the win over LU was the most by the Javelinas since November 7, 2015, when the team ran for 328 in a 43-25 win over Tarleton
