Javelinas close out season on the road against Falcons

Kickoff set for 6 p.m. CT at Ratliff Stadium

The Matchup    
  • The Javelinas finish the 2019 season on the road against UT Permian Basin on November 16
  • Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT at Ratliff Stadium in Odessa, Texas, and will have an audio feed on the Mendoza's Pharmacy Javelina Sports Network along with the UTPB Digital Network
  • TAMUK took the 2018 contest 24-21 following a last-second interception in its territory to seal the win
  • Senior Sean Landez cut off the pass from Kameron Mathis at the Javelina 19-yard line to secure the win for the hosts with three seconds remaining in the game
  • Koy Detmer Jr. finished with 249 yards on 22 completions alongside three touchdowns in the win
  • Tyler Wilson caught 11 passes for 127 yards, while Aaron Dilworth, Ryan Martinez and Brandon Smith all caught a touchdown pass

Scouting the Falcons    
  • UTPB is 3-7 on the year with a 1-6 mark in conference games, including a 48-38 upset win over Eastern New Mexico on November 2 at Ratliff Stadium
  • The Falcons also took a win over Wayland Baptist to begin the year along with a win over Nothern Michigan during the second week of the season
  • Four different quarterbacks have taken snaps under center, with Clayton Roberts leading the group with 592 yards on a 46.4% completion rate, three touchdowns and eight interceptions
  • Kameron Mathis owns 547 yards on a 54.4% clip alongside five touchdowns and four picks
  • Davion Sutton and Marquis Simmons have both eclipsed 300 yards on the year at 394 and 309, respectively, along with six combined touchdowns, while Gabe Nelson has run for six touchdowns on his own along with 294 yards
  • Kyle McBride leads the receiving corps with 599 yards on 45 catches and four touchdowns, matched by Kobe Robinson with four touchdowns and 351 yards on 31 grabs
  • Chris Hoad, the LSC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, leads the country with 143 tackles
Last Time Out    
  • The Javelinas jumped out to an early 17-0 lead against West Texas A&M for Senior Day, but ultimately fell 35-31 in the contest
  • Koy Detmer Jr. threw for 315 yards and four touchdowns, but was picked off twice
  • Ryan Martinez caught seven passes for 129 yards and two touchdowns, all career highs
  • Alan Smith caught the other two touchdown passes and finished with 11 receiving yards
  • Tre'Michael Tutt added 17 tackles, 1.5 for loss, and one forced fumble that led to a 35-yard field goal from Romario Perez
  • Kason Franklin grabbed his second interception of the year and ran it back 48 yards to set up the Javelinas' score at the start of the second quarter

Air Traffic Controller    
  • Koy Detmer Jr. threw for 450 yards in the loss to No. 4/5 Tarleton, completing 37 passes on 65 attempts and adding three touchdowns
  • The 450 yards are second-most all-time in program history as Abel Gonzalez's record of 457 yards in an NCAA First Round loss on November 17, 2001, against UC Davis stands as the all-time mark for the Javelinas
  • The 65 pass attempts tied the program record originally set by Bryan Ehrlich in a Kanza Bowl loss to Emporia State on November 25, 2012
  • The 37 completions broke the previous school record, also set by Ehrlich in the 2012 Kanza Bowl
  • The Javelinas have thrown for over 400 yards four times, first accomplished by Gonzalez in 2001
  • Ehrlich eclipsed 400 yards twice in 2012, once for 418 yards in the Kanza Bowl, but first did so on September 22 in Kingsville against No. 15 Midwestern State for 415 yards

Defensive Stalwart    
  • Tre'Michael Tutt's 22 tackles (12 solo) against ENMU on Sept. 28 set a new program record for most tackles in a game
  • Tutt broke the record of 21 originally set by Robert Soza against Nevada on Sept. 15, 1984, and matched by Chris Hensley against Pittsburg State on Dec. 2, 1995

Gone in a Flash    
  • Donte Ross' 48-yard punt return touchdown against ENMU on Sept. 28 was the first punt return touchdown by a Javelina in nearly 10 years
  • The last Hog to return a punt for a score was Corey Robertson on Oct. 31, 2009, against Abilene Christian
  • The last TAMUK special teams touchdown was a 100-yard kickoff return by Jordan Thomas against William Jewell on Nov. 8, 2017
  • Josh Wilson added the second special teams touchdown of the year with a 70-yard return following a blocked field goal against Western Oregon on Oct. 12

Goose Egg    
  • TAMUK's 72-0 win over Sul Ross State was the first shutout for head coach Daren Wilkinson since he first took over the program ahead of the 2015 season
  • The last shutout came in the 2010 season, a 21-0 win over A&M-Commerce on Sept. 8
  • It was the 126th shutout in program history and the 10th of Sul Ross State

Lone Star Conference in the National Rankings    
  • Three teams from the LSC are ranked after nine weeks in either the AFCA poll and D2Football.com rankings
  • Tarleton remained at No. 3/5 in their respective polls following a 58-3 thrashing of William Jewell
  • Angelo State dropped the matchup to Eastern New Mexico at 20-17 in overtime, and fell out of the AFCA poll as a result, but remained at No. 23 in the D2Football.com rankings
  • A&M-Commerce took a step up to No. 23/22, respectively, following a 44-13 win over UTPB

Grind it Out    
  • The Javelinas have scored on 41 drives in 2019, with three drives lasting over five minutes
  • The longest timed possession of the year came against West Texas A&M on Nov 9, a 15-play, 69-yard drive that last 6:30 and resulted in a seven-yard touchdown pass from Koy Detmer Jr. to Alan Smith
  • The longest possession in terms of yardage was a nine-play, 98-yard drive that resulted in a six-yard touchdown run from Luis Lopez against Western New Mexico on Nov 2
  • 10 drives have last at least 10 plays, included all three scoring drives over five minutes in length
  • Four of those drives have resulted in a field goal, while the other six ended in the end zone
