Javelinas Open their Lone Star Conference Schedule at Home

Texas A&M-Kingsville is now ranked No. 4 in the D2SIDA Media Poll South Central rankings

KINGSVILLE, Texas – The gauntlet that is the Lone Star Conference begins with #RV Texas A&M University-Kingsville (7-0, 0-0 LSC) having its conference home opener on Tuesday, November 28 at 7:30 p.m. against #RV Angelo State University (6-1, 0-0 LSC) at the Gil E. Steinke Physical Education Center.

Tuesday's doubleheader will be Faculty Appreciation Night and we invite all of TAMUK's faculty and staff to come and watch both teams in their conference home opening games.

The Javelinas are eyeing the best start in the history of the program but will have to go through a formidable conference foe in Angelo State. Although ASU comes to South Texas with a strong offense, TAMUK can be their kryptonite as they possess the sixth best scoring defense in the country, giving up a sheer 60.4 points per game.

Both Trey Sumpter and Jacolby Harris lead the team with a scoring average of ten points per game (PPG) followed by Derrick Byrd and Caelan Neal who scores 8.9 PPG. Other team leaders consist of Byrd with 20 assists, Robert Stevenson (5.7 PPG) with 13 blocks, Will West (6.1 PPG) with 11 steals, and Christian Bambrook with 5.0 rebounds per game.

Angelo State has had a good start to the season despite falling in its last game to Lubbock Christian 69-65 to close out the ASU Thanksgiving classic. The Rams are in a tie for third in the LSC averaging 87 points per contest and rank third with a scoring defense of 71.7 points per game. They are an efficient bunch offensively though, shooting a league-best 50 percent from the floor, and ties TAMUK with a turnover margin of +6 to lead the conference.

ASU has five student-athletes with a scoring average in double-digits, starting with Ja'Michael Brown's 16 PPG. Brown also leads the team with 29 assists. James Kirksey follows with 12.9 points and is the team's leading rebounder with 6.1 boards per game, and 13 total steals. Brandon Williams and Daron Mims both average 11 points, and Will Adler score 10 PPG.

Live stats and a live stream will be made available on the men's basketball schedule page on javelinaathletics.com.
