KINGSVILLE, Texas – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (13-9, 6-5 LSC) will have three matches in two days inside of the Gil E. Steinke Physical Education Center on October 20-21. The slate of matches will begin on Friday, October 20 at 2 p.m. Dallas Baptist University (6-12, 2-5 Heartland Conference), followed by a 7 p.m. nightcap with Eastern New Mexico University (8-13, 5-6 LSC). On Saturday, Western New Mexico University (6-13, 6-5 LSC) will grace the court with the first serve scheduled for 2 p.m.
The Javelinas return to the Kingsville Hampton Inn Court for the second consecutive weekend where they boast a 5-2 record this season. The club currently sits 4th in the conference standings and has a .219 attack percentage, averages 1.88 blocks per set, and 1.37 serves aces per set in 2017.
Krystal Faison and
Madison Brabham are the team's top hitters with 208 and 207 kills, respectively, while
Lexi Wick is right behind them with 199 kills.
Haley Hutchinson has accounted for 135 kills and leads the team with 76 blocks and newcomers
Gabby Atchley (116) and
Shelby Sheets (112) round out the triple-digit hitters.
Casey Klobedans paces the LSC with 795 assists (9.46 per set) and freshman
Jasmine Jacinto has totaled 4.37 digs per set.
The non-conference schedule will conclude with an early afternoon match against Dallas Baptist. The Patriots are currently nursing a four-match skid and are 1-4 against Lone Star Conference members. Sidneejo Fitzpatrick leads the team with 2.03 kills per set and 62 total blocks. Aleexa Lezak registers 1.89 kills per set and Lauren Nicks has a team-high of 17 aces. The Javelinas currently leads the all-time series
Jumping back into conference play, the Hogs have the opportunity to even the season series with Eastern New Mexico at 7 p.m. after being upset on the road in the conference opener. The Greyhounds have struggled on the road this season, winning only one of nine matches and hits .152. Brooklyn Biel leads the team in total kills (219) but Sarah Tuioti-Mariner is efficient with a team-best 2.81 kills per set. Biel is the muscle on defense with 65 blocks and Kaitlyn Kluna leads the league with 39 aces.
The weekend will end with a 2 p.m. match on Saturday against Western New Mexico. Earlier this season, the Javelinas swept the Mustangs, but WNMU is hot right now after winning two of their last three matches including a five-set upset against then-ranked No. 17 Angelo State. Kailie Lyle leads a trio of hitters with 200 kills. Alanna Watt has turned in 147 kills this season and Kelli McGhiey has logged 103.
