Bon Voyage! Volleyball Set to Begin Six-Match Road Trip

The Javelinas will return home on Friday, October 7 for their Dig Pink match versus West Texas A&M University

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Volleyball) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (10-1) will begin its six-match road trip with a non-conference tilt at St. Mary's University (6-6) on September 20 in the Bill Greehey Arena at 7 p.m.

Live stats and video will be accessible at javelinaathletics.com. The Javelinas opened Lone Star Conference play with back-to-back straight set victories over Western New Mexico University (6-4) and Eastern New Mexico University (4-6).

"In our two conference matches, the team did a great job following the scouting report," said head coach Tanya Allen. "In both matches, our team chemistry was phenomenal."

In the two matches, Krystal Faison led the way with 18 kills and Lexi Wick followed with 16. Both Faison and Wick registered four aces. Madison Brabham and Ashley Bukowski finished with 13 and 12 kills, respectively, while Wick, Brabham and Haley Hutchinson recorded six blocks apiece. Casey Klobedans averaged 11 assists per set and added six kills and one block.

Overall in 2016, the Javelinas lead the conference in aces (85) and aces per set (2.13) and rank second in hitting at .247 and in total blocks with 93.5. They are second in the LSC standings behind No.8 Angelo State University (11-1, 2-0 LSC).

St. Mary's is near the end of its four-match homestand that began with a split against conference rivals St. Edwards University and Dallas Baptist University, respectively, with both matches going the distance.

StMU leads the Heartland conference with 84 total blocks and 70 service aces, and sit in the top five with 12 kills per set. Shelly Chapran is tops in the league in hitting (.315) and leads the club with 15 aces. She also adds 73 kills and 32 total blocks. Maddi King is No. 1 on the team with 101 kills and 124 digs in 2016. Megan Isbell sits second in the conference with a team high of 40 total blocks, while Bree Perry ranks third with 364 total assists and 8.67 assists per set.

"These next six matches will be a true test of the mental toughness of our team," said Allen. "Not only are we on the road, playing in front of tough crowds, we will also be facing some of the top teams in the conference."

After sweeping the Rattlers earlier this season, the Hogs are 14-27 overall and look to extend their current five-match winning streak against the St. Mary's. StMU holds a 13-3 record over TAMUK when playing in San Antonio.
