KINGSVILLE, Texas (Baseball) – No. 26 Texas A&M University-Kingsville (27-13, 17-9 LSC) looks to gain sole possession of first place in the Lone Star Conference baseball standings as the Javelinas welcome Eastern New Mexico University (10-31, 3-23 LSC) for a three-game homestand this weekend at Nolan Ryan Field, followed by concluding the home slate of the 2016 regular season against the University of Houston-Victoria (20-21) Tuesday.

The series begins with one game April 22 at 6 p.m. followed by a doubleheader Saturday at 1 and 3:30 p.m. Prior to Saturday's double dip, seniors

Vesely was named LSC and National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association Hitter and Pitcher of the Week earlier this week and in yesterday's 9-6 upset win over No. 9/t-17 St. Edward's University, he blasted his third home run of the season, a three-run shot that capped off a seven-run second inning.

About the Javelinas
Perry leads the team and is second in the LSC in hitting with a .388 batting average. The left fielder has five home runs, 10 doubles, four triples and 25 RBI. Vesely is batting .340 with three home runs, 13 doubles, six triples (league best), eight stolen bases and 36 RBI.
Jimmy Roche is third on the club with a .322 clip, followed by
Ruben Almaguer (.321, 13 doubles, 37 RBI, 25 walks),
Pablo Hernandez (.319, seven home runs, which lead the LSC),
Christian Caudle (.305, 17 RBI) and
Hunter Perkins (.300, 10 ribbies). Almaguer's 37 RBI and are the most in the conference.

Preston Plovanich is 4-1 with a 2.59 ERA, the second lowest earned run average in the Lone Star Conference. He is coming off a complete game victory versus then No. 30 Angelo State University.
Jako Kelm earned the victory Wednesday at St. Edward's to improve to 4-2. The southpaw has a 2.20 ERA in 37.2 innings and fellow reliever Elling is 3-1 with a 2.55 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 17.2 innings.
Hunter Lehman has three saves and Vesely and
Trey Taylor each have two.

In conference play, Texas A&M-Kingsville leads the league in hitting with a .301 batting average, 187 runs, 241 hits, nine triples, 157 RBI and 118 walks. Individually, Perry is batting .436 with five doubles and three home runs in LSC action. Vesely is batting .333 with 11 doubles and six stolen bases. Caudle is 12
th with a .328 average. Hernandez (.321, five home runs), Roche (.318, 18 RBI) and Aguilar (.317, 11 RBI) are all over the .300 plateau. Vesely's 11 doubles, Hernandez's five home runs and Almaguer's 24 RBI lead the LSC.

Plovanich leads in ERA with a 1.51 earned run average in seven games, five starts. The left-hander is 4-1 with two complete games and 29 strikeouts in 41.2 innings.

Mathematically eliminated from the 2016 LSC Baseball Tournament, Eastern New Mexico enters Kingsville on a seven-game losing skid. Daniel Ward leads the LSC in hitting with a .389 batting average and adds five home runs, 11 doubles and 20 RBI.

Tregra Williams is batting .345 with three home runs, Mike McNicholl is at. 306 with 17 RBI and Justin Paul (.300, 12 stolen bases) round out the .300 hitters. On the mound, Scott Klein is 2-2 with a 3.14 ERA.

The Javelinas defeated Houston-Victoria earlier this season, 13-2. Cole Coakley leads UHV with a .358 batting average. Andrew Gross has 17 home runs, 51 RBI, 16 doubles and a .349 batting average. Dylan Blaha has 45 hits in 132 at bats.

Steven Ellis is 5-1 with a 2.40 ERA and five complete games for the Jaguars. He has 56 strikeouts in 56.1 innings. Blaha has four saves in 44.1 innings.
