SAN ANGELO, Texas (Volleyball) – Less than 24 hours before beginning the 2016 Lone Star Conference Championship at the Stephens Arena at the Junell Center, third seeded Texas A&M University-Kingsville (25-8) earned three all-conference selections as
Lexi Wick was named All-LSC first team and Newcomer of the Year,
Krystal Faison appeared on the first team for the second consecutive season and
Casey Klobedans was selected to the second team and all-academic squad.
The Javelinas will take on West Texas A&M University tomorrow at 12 p.m. Live stats and video will be available and can be accessed by visiting JavelinaAthletics.com. With a win, the Hogs would advance to the semifinals game on Friday at 5 p.m. with a championship berth on the line. The title game is scheduled for Saturday at 3 p.m.
After sitting out last season, Wick stormed back onto the court and leads the conference with a 40.8 hitting percentage. The .408 clip is fifth best in NCAA Division II. The junior middle blocker also has 131 total blocks which is good for 19
th overall and third in the conference. For the year, Wick averages 2.77 kills per set and 1.07 blocks per set to go with her 46 service aces.
Appearing on the All-LSC first team for the second consecutive season, Faison has 17 double-doubles in the record breaking campaign. Averaging 3.20 kills per set and 3.57 digs, Faison eclipsed the 1,000 career kills marker earlier this season. The junior leads the team with 49 service aces.
Klobedans picked up an all-academic and second team selection after leading the conference and finishing the regular season second nationally with 1,283 total assists. Averaging 10.60 assists, 2.22 digs and 0.40 blocks, the junior setter has 15 double-doubles and became the leading setter in program history.
Earlier this season, the Javelinas swept their first round opponent, West Texas A&M, with a 3-2 win Oct. 7 and 3-1 victory Nov. 4.
Led by sixth year head coach and the all-time winningest coach in school history
Tanya Allen, the Javelinas enter the LSC tournament on a five match win streak.
Krystal Puente leads the team defensively with 4.00 digs per frame.
The Lady Buffs defeated the Hogs in the two previous tournament meetings between the programs.
Regional Poll
The Javelinas currently rank No. 9 in the NCAA South Central Regional rankings. The top eight advance to the tournament with each tournament winner receiving an automatic berth. The NCAA Selection Show is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m.
