MIDLAND, Texas (Tennis) – The inaugural West Texas Collegiate Tennis Shootout at the Bush Tennis Center provided a first for Texas A&M University-Kingsville (6-5). The Javelinas knocked off previously undefeated North Central Texas College (8-1), 6-1, in their first match before concluding the first day of the two-day tournament with a dominating 8-0 win over New Mexico Military Institute (2-3).

With the victories on Friday, Texas A&M-Kingsville earned two wins in the same day for the first time since the program's reinstatement.

Match OneMariaxi Herrera and
Marija Dimitrovska picked up an 8-3 victory in doubles No. 1 and
Tabata Lua and
Nadia Grlj did the same in doubles No. 3 to give the Hogs a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.

The four continued their winning ways, recording straight set "w's" in their respective flights. Herrera downed Georgina Gosen, 6-2, 6-0, in flight No. 1, Grlj came out victorious in No. 2, 6-1, 6-1, Dimitrovska added a 6-0, 6-1 win in No. 3 and Lua picked up a 6-3, 6-0 win in No. 6.

The match was the first ever between the Lady Lions and the Javelinas.

Match TwoHerrera and Dimitrovska earned their eighth win this season in doubles No. 1, 8-3, and Lua and Grlj blanked their opponents, 8-0, in No. 2.

In singles action, Dimitrovska won, 6-0, 6-3, in her first lane No. 1 match and
Erika Larrea improved to 7-0 on the season in singles play with a 6-3, 6-0 win in flight No. 3.

The Javelinas return to action tomorrow at 10 a.m. to take on No. 46 Newman University (11-0).
