Box Score KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team fell 10-2 to top-ranked West Texas A&M Saturday in five innings in the series finale as the Javelinas celebrated Senior Day.
Renee Erwin put the Lady Buffs (36-4, 15-4) on the board early in the first with a 2-run home run scoring Alyssa Lemos, who led of the game with a walk.
In the bottom of the first Kingsville (9-33, 2-18) had a great chance to take a lead loading the bases with one out as
Bailey Offill reached on an error to lead off the inning and
Jaeleen Castro singled. With one away, Gomez walked loading the bases.
Tori Bayer would get out of the jam with a strikeout of
Carynn Gonzales and pop up to second by
Myrissa Sanchez.
West Texas pushed its lead to 5-0 in the top of the second as Erwin struck again clearing the bases with a 3-run triple. Erwin finished a single shy of hitting for the cycle.
The visitors added home runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Kaisha Dacosin hit a solo home run to start the third, while Jessica Sipe and Allie Cranfill had 2-run home runs in the fifth to make it 10-0.
The Javelinas scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth. With two away, Offill picked up her second hit of the afternoon with a single. She scored on a double off the fence in left field by Castro. Castro crossed the plate for the second run on a wild pitch.
The Javelinas used three pitchers with
Carlie Clark taking the loss to move to 4-15 on the season. She allowed six runs on four hits and four walks.
Lauren Denney tossed two innings permitting four runs on five hits and
Ariel Kellogg pitched one scoreless inning.
Rita Hokianaga (17-2) earned the win in relief tossing three innings. She allowed two runs on three hits. Bayer tossed a pair of scoreless innings to start the game
The Javelinas travel to Laredo on Tuesday for a doubleheader against Texas A&M International. The first game is slated to start at 1 p.m.
