Softball Splits with ENMU To End Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PORTALES, N.M. – The Texas A&M-Kingsville softball split with Eastern New Mexico, 6-3 and 9-8, to close out regular season play on Saturday.
 
The Javelinas started out game one with a bang when Bailey Offill homered to left field in the first inning to get the team going. Offill's home run was her second of the season.
 
The third inning produced two more runs for Kingsville as the Javelinas took a 3-0 lead. Offill reached on a single up the middle, advanced to second after Jaeleen Castro hit a sacrifice bunt, and reached third on a wild pitch. Valerie Ramirez drove her in with a single to right center field. The second run of the third inning was scored when Ramirez came home on a Myrissa Sanchez sacrifice fly to center field.
 
The Zias scored one run in third and fourth inning. The run in the third inning was scored when Erica Velasquez crossed the plate after Jacqueline Candelaria grounded out to second base.  The second run in fifth came as Cailin Garmon pinch ran for Marleyna Pinon after she hit a double to right center field. Shelby Ripple drove in Garmon when she hit a double down the left field line, 3-2.
 
Kingsville answered back with a 3-run fifth inning. The first run came as Erica Graham down the left line to drive in Ramirez after she was walked. Next, Adela Gomez homered to center field and drove in Graham. The home run was Gomez's fifth of the season for a 6-2.
 
ENMU scored the last run of the game in the bottom of the fifth when Alberta Medina homered to left center field, 6-3.
 
Carlie Clark (6-19) picked up the win. Clark pitched four innings allowing three earned runs on six hits.
 
Garmon (6-23) suffered the loss for the Zias. She pitched a four innings and allowed six earned runs on eight hits. Garmon also fanned and walked two batters.
 
In game two, Kingsville scored first again when Offill scored on a throwing error after hitting a single to center field, advancing to second off a muffed throw, and then scored when Eastern misplayed an infield fly by Graham, 1-0.
 
The Zias scored two runs in the bottom of the first and second inning.
 
In the first inning, Pinon drove Candelaria in with a single to left field. Candelaria doubled to left field to get on base and advance to third when Velasquez grounded out to second.  Beatriz Corporal pinch ran for Pinon and was driven in when Aurelia Sandoval double to left center field, 2-1.
In the second inning, Ripple singled up the middle and was driven in when Erica Armendarez doubled to center field. Armendarez stole home for the last run of the inning, 4-1.
 
The Javelinas responded with a seven-run fifth inning. Carynn Gonzales singled to first base and was driven in when Castro singled up the middle. Ramirez reached on a fielder's choice and was driven in with Castro when Graham doubled to right center field. Gomez was hit by pitch to reach first. Sanchez singled up the middle to drive in Graham. Taylor McGill homered down the left line to drive in Gomez and Sanchez, 8-4.
 
ENMU scored three more runs in the bottom of fifth inning when Sandoval singled up the middle and Garmon singled to left center. Ripple homered to right field to drive in Garmon and Sandoval, 8-7.
 
The Zias would tie the game in the seventh inning with one run after Garmon scored when Velasquez hit a sacrifice fly to center field. Garmon reached base when she singled through the left side.
 
Game two went for another two innings until Eastern scored one run in the ninth inning. Sandoval singled to left center and Savannah Chavez pinch ran for her. Chavez was driven in by Ripple when she doubled down the left line, 9-8.
 
Garmon (7-23) picked up the win. She pitched 4.1 innings with no runs and none earned on three hits.
 
Ariel Kellogg (3-12) suffered the loss for the Javelinas. She pitched a 3.2 innings and giving up two earned runs on eight hits.
 
Kingsville ends regular season with a records of 14-42 overall and 5-23 in conference.
