Box Score 2 KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team was swept in a doubleheader Tuesday evening 8-2 and 4-1 to Houston-Victoria at Hubert Field on Pack the House Night.
In the opening game, Houston-Victoria scored eight runs on 16 hits en route to the 8-2 victory. The top three hitters for the visitors combined for 10 hits. Kingsville managed three hits in the game and drew 10 walks. The Javelinas stranded 13 runners.
With runs in the top of first and second, the Jaguars led 2-0 before A&M-Kingsville scored in the bottom of the second.
Taylor McGill reached on a 2-out single and went to third as
Erica Graham reached on an error.
Cortnee White loaded the bases as she was hit by a pitch.
Bailey Offill brought in a run with a bases loaded walk.
After taking a 3-1 lead with a single run in the third, UHV plated four runs in the fourth inning.
Kingsville threatened a comeback in the fifth drawing three straight walks to load the bases. Savannah Crittenden (10-2) avoided the big inning by getting back-to-back Javelinas to hit into fielder's choices with the outs at the plate. McGill would draw the fourth walk of the inning to bring in
Adela Gomez to make it 7-2, but the inning would end with the bases loaded.
After the Jaguars scored a final run in the top of the sixth, the Hoggies loaded the bases with one away in the bottom of the sixth with three walks with one away. Kingsville would leave the bases full.
In game two, Houston-Victoria took advantage of two Hoggie errors to score three runs in the top of the second inning for a 3-0 lead. The Jaguars added fourth unearned run in the top of the sixth.
Kingsville would score its lone run in the bottom of the sixth on a RBI double by McGill that drove in Gomez.
Kat Tapley (2-7) suffered the loss in the second game. She allowed four unearned runs on seven hits. Griffin Gilbert (3-1) claimed the in allowing an earned run on four hits.
The Javelinas host a Angelo State on Friday in a doubleheader at 1 & 3 p.m.
