KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team hosts its annual StrikeOut Cancer sponsored by Christus Spohn Hospital Kleberg when Texas A&M International visits Hubert Field for a doubleheader Tuesday with the first game at 5 p.m.
The Javelinas will be looking to snap a 5-game losing streak and improve their 7-24 record. International enters with a 15-22 record having won two straight.
The two teams met earlier this season with Kingsville winning in a see-saw battle. Mussett belted a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh to knot the game at seven after the Dustdevils trailed 7-0 after three innings.
Bailey Offill was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to win the game.
Offill continues to be the most consistent Kingsville hitter averaging a career-best .316 on the season. She is tied with
Adela Gomez for the team lead in runs scored with 18. Gomez, who has a team-best three home runs, leads the way with 16 RBI on the season followed by
Valerie Ramirez and Offill with 15 a piece.
Myrissa Sanchez had a strong four games last week hitting .417, while
Jaeleen Castro averaged .400.
Four Dustdevils are hitting over .331 on the season lead by Cassandra DeLeon. DeLeon leads the team with a .387 average, six home runs, and 29 runs batted in. Mussett is second with a .362 average, while Brenda Parmin is hitting .336 with 28 RBI. Esmerelda Gonzalez, who has scored a team-high 34 runs, is batting .331.
