Javelinas Unable To Solve Midwestern

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team couldn't solve Midwestern State on Sunday afternoon falling 10-1 and 16-5 at Mustang Park.

In the opening game, Kingsville (7-24, 2-11) scored the opening run in the first. With one away, Jaeleen Castro walked and scored on a double to right by Valerie Ramirez. Castro and Ramirez each had two hits in the game.
After tying the game in the bottom of the first, the Mustangs scored nine runs on seven hits and a Javelina error in the third. Hayley Howerton, Kelley Schaefer and Katy Vandewater each had two RBI in the decisive inning.

Carlie Clark suffered the loss as she moved to 3-11 on the season. She allowed 10 runs with eight earned on nine hits in2-2/3 innings of work. Lauren Denney pitched 1-1/3 innings of perfect relief.

Erin Knox claimed the win for her 10th of the season allowing one run on five hits with a walk and a strikeout.

In game two, the Javelina fell behind 4-0 in the first, but rebounded with two runs in each of the second and third innings to knot the game.

In the second, Erica Graham reached on a 1-out error by MSU. After moving to third on a single by Myrissa Sanchez, Graham raced home on a Cortnee White single. A sacrifice fly by Offill plated Sanchez to make it 4-2.

In the third, Adela Gomez singled and advanced to second as Carynn Gonzales was hit by a pitch. With one away, Graham drew a walk with Gomez scoring on last which was deemed an illegal pitch. Sanchez drove in Gonzalez with her second hit of the game.

The Kingsville lead lasted until the fourth when MSU scored five times to regain the lead. Katelyn Vinson capped the inning with a 3-run home run.

The Mustangs sealed the win in the sixth inning with seven more runs. Kim Jerrick's grand slam capped the scoring for the hosts.

The Javelinas host a non-LSC doubleheader on Tuesday against Texas A&M-International with the first game at 5 p.m. It is the annual Strike Out Cancer contest sponsored by Christus Spohn Hospital Kleberg.
