Softball Drop Both Games Against Midwestern

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team lost 1-0 and 8-4 in the first of two doubleheaders in 4-game series at Midwestern on Saturday.
 
In game one, the Javelinas (7-22, 2-9) suffered a heartbreaking defeating allowing just one run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh in a 1-0 setback.
 
Carlie Clark (3-10) suffered the loss for the Javelinas with 6.2 innings pitched. She allowed one earned run on five hits.
 
The lone run came with two outs in the seventh when pinch hitter Erin Knox singled through the left side of the infield to drive in Katelyn Vinson. Vinson led off with a single and advanced into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt.
 
Kingsville could not come up with the key hit leaving the bases full in the third and out-hitting the Mustangs 6-5. Bailey Offill led the Hoggies with two.
 
Katlyn Holmes (8-4) picked up the win for Midwestern with a seven innings pitched for no run on six hits with two strikeouts.
 
In game two, Kingsville started things off with a bang when Adela Gomez singled up the middle to drive in Jaeleen Castro in the top of the first.
 
The Mustangs would answer back with two runs in the bottom of the opening frame. Vinson doubled in Katy Vandewater and Kelley Schaefer, making the score 2-1.
 
The Javelinas tied the game in the top of the second at two before taking a 4-2 lead in the fourth.
 
In the second, Kingsville tied the game at two when Offill singled to drive in Erica Graham. In the fourth, Graham tripled and scored after a Myrissa Sanchez single to left field. Cortnee White's sacrifice bunt moved Sanchez to second with Sanchez being driven by Offill for a 4-2 lead.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, Midwestern grabbed the lead and never looked back. The Mustangs scored five runs on four hits.  Vandewater capped the inning with a 3-run home run off Ariel Kellogg for a 7-4 lead.
 
The last run of the game scored when Midwestern's Schaefer homered to right center, 8-4.
 
Katherine Batey (4-3) took the win for the Mustangs with four innings of work, allowing four runs with three earned on seven hits.
 
Ariel Kellogg (3-9) suffered the loss for Kingsville with six innings pitched, eight runs with eight earned on 10 hits.
 
Offill, Graham and Sanchez each had two hits for the Javelinas who had nine.
 
The Javelinas play a doubleheader to close the series out on Sunday; first pitch is set for 12 p.m.
